After a long break from college, I’ve recently started a graduate program in English Literature. My plan, which will take several years to complete, is to write a thesis on reactive storytelling in massively multiplay online roleplaying games.
And, no, this isn’t just an excuse for me to start playing World of Warcraft. I’ve had this idea in mind for a few years, but didn’t have the money or time to start a graduate program.
I’m just starting my research now. It’s not yet formalized or approved by my academic advisors, and I have a lot of catching up to do after purposefully avoiding MMORPGs for ten years, due to seeing WoW addiction destroy the GPA of three friends the first year it came out. I will post my research to this page as I work on it, both to help myself clarify my thoughts and to share what I find with anyone else who is interested in learning about the modern literature of online roleplaying games.
